Affiliated Process

Affiliated programs are offered by third-party providers who have an official agreement with Texas State University. Texas State Affiliated providers are selected based on their credentials, commitment to academic quality, health & safety practices, and reputation in the international education community.

Affiliated programs enable Texas State to expand the variety of study abroad opportunities beyond Faculty-Led and Exchange programs.

Most of these Affiliates offer programs all year long, and the duration of their programs may vary from two weeks to a full academic year.

Some Affiliated programs involve placing student participants in classroom settings that follow American classroom conventions. Usually, there are no local students taking the courses, so student interaction with the local population happens through homesteads or social events. Other providers offer direct enrollment, which means that American students can register directly at local universities. Under this model, participants will, in most cases, will have full immersion in the local culture.

The cost of affiliated programs, in most cases, is based on a package, which might include tuition, accommodations, meals, an on-site program director, in-country orientations, airport pick-up, health insurance, excursions, etc. All Affiliated program costs are paid directly to the program provider.

It is the responsibility of the Affiliated program provider to give you detailed information about arrival, courses, housing, costs, orientation, visa requirements, etc. Education Abroad staff can assist you with your application process, help you prepare for your Education Abroad experience, and help you maintain your Texas State student status during the term(s) of your Education Abroad program.

Application deadlines

Applications for most programs are due the semester before the program begins. There are two applications Texas State students must complete in order to participate in an Affiliated program:

2. the Provider's application.

*Please note that some Affiliated programs have an extended application deadline. Please schedule a meeting with the Education Abroad to get more detailed information.

For specific deadlines regarding the Affiliated provider's application, please contact the program provider.

3. Review affiliated providers' websites
4. Select some programs you are interested in.

5. Transfer Credit Agreement

The Transfer Credit Agreement form is required for all students who wish to participate in Education Abroad programs and would like to transfer undergraduate credits to Texas State. This form will need to be filled out to make sure your classes while abroad will transfer to Texas State. If you do not complete this process, you may not receive academic credits for courses completed and may not be eligible for financial aid.

The Undergraduate Transfer Credit Agreement Form (TCA) is located in your online Texas State Affiliated program Application. Please complete the TCA form and email it to Education Abroad affiliated program advisor (Manon Bowen) or directly to the Education Abroad office with course descriptions.

It is strongly advised to select more courses than what you really intend to take in case of course cancellations or schedule conflicts. Be sure to attach all course descriptions or syllabi (preferably in English), which you can find in university catalogs, websites, etc.

The TCA form will be reviewed by an Education Abroad staff member, and then forwarded to the Office of Admission for course evaluation. The Office of Admission will then send it to your Academic Advising Center to determine if the selected courses satisfy your degree requirements. Once fully evaluated, the TCA form will be send to an Education Abroad staff member who will transfer it to you.

If you have any questions regarding the evaluated/approved TCA, please make an appointment with the Academic Advisor who completed the form.
