Graduate Students

Graduate students interested in participating in the Exchange program are required to follow the steps below. 

  • Before you can start your Incoming International Exchange Application (Graduate), please meet with the exchange program coordinator at your home institution and request submission of the Nomination Form. 

    Nomination deadline for Fall Semester (August - December)         March 1st

    Nomination deadline for Spring Semester (January - May)             September 15th

    The Texas State Exchange Coordinator will review the candidates and confirm acceptance within a one week time period.

Pre-Acceptance

Please note that pre-acceptance steps (two applications and supported documents) need to be completed by the following deadlines:
Application Deadlines for the Fall Semester (August - December): March 31st
Application Deadlines for the Spring Semester (January - May): October 1st

  • Graduate students must first complete Incoming International Exchange (Graduate) online application through Texas State Education Abroad. To access this application, please click here

    Students will be required to upload the following documents to complete their application:

    • A copy of their passport
    • A current or most recent copy of their transcript (unofficial or official) 
    • Proof of language proficiency that can be demonstrated by one of the following:

    TOEFL iBT – 78 (with minimum scores of 19 on each subsection and 18 or higher on writing section)

    TOEFL PBT – 550

    Cambridge IELTS – 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 score in all sections)

    Letter of Evaluation from your institution certifying the university level English proficiency of the candidates

    Application Deadline for Fall Semester (August – December):

    March 31

    Application Deadline for Spring Semester (January – May):            October 1

  • Incoming exchange graduate students must also apply directly through The Graduate College.

    To apply to the Graduate College, the documents must be on file by the standard deadline.

  • International Graduate Exchange students must submit their Visiting Student Form to the Graduate College. 

    Visiting Student Form (must be completed each semester of study and must include approval of home university)

  • Students are required to submit English language proficiency exam scores (TOEFL/IELTS only) meeting the requirements for regular admission or, in lieu of official TOEFL or IELTS scores. 

     

Post-Acceptance

  • After being accepted to Texas State University, you will receive an email with an assigned NetID. Your Texas State NetID is a number and letter combination and it is also a prefix of your Texas State e-mail address.  See the examples below.

    NetID (username):  zz1234

    E-mail address: zz1234@txstate.edu

    With your NetID you will be able to log into the Texas State Self-Service (CatsWeb) where you will have access to a variety of online services, such as checking holds on your account, viewing final grades, class registration etc.

    Before you can log into online services and check your Texas State E-mail (BobcatMail), you must activate your Net ID. Click here to create or reactivate your NetID.

  • After being accepted to Texas State University, you need to request an I-20 Form. YOU WILL NEED TO BRING YOUR SIGNED I-20 WITH YOU THROUGH CUSTOMS AND AT IMMIGRATION CHECK-IN. 

    You will need to request an I-20 via the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) website

  • Texas State requires Bacteria Meningitis Vaccination for all students under the age of 22.

    Please click here for more detailed information regarding immunization. In order to meet this requirement, we strongly recommend to check your immunization records. If you have not received this vaccine, be sure to get this vaccine immediately after being accepted into Texas Sate - no later than one month prior to arrival - so you will not have difficulty registering for classes. 

    You need to submit your proof of vaccination to Magnus Health SMR. Acceptable evidence of vaccination may be found here http://www.admissions.txstate.edu/meningitis

  • The purpose of this form is to help Texas State to be of maximum assistance during your education abroad experience. Mild physical or psychological disorders can become exacerbated with the stresses of life while studying abroad. It is important that the Exchange Program Coordinator is aware of any medical or emotional problems you have experienced. The information provided will remain confidential and will be shared with program staff, faculty, or appropriate professionals only if necessary to your well-being. Texas State may not be able to accommodate all individual needs or circumstances. This information does not affect your admission into the program.

    Please complete the Health Information Questionnaire via your Online Incoming International/Exchange Application.

  • To register for courses, please go to http://www.catsweb.txstate.edu/students.html and follow the next steps:

    • Go to CatsWeb at http://www.catsweb.txstate.edu/students.html
    • Click on My Registration & Class Schedule
    • Enter you NetID and password.
    • Select: Student - Registration - Registration/Schedule Changes
    • You can then enter your course # or CRN number

    Attention!

    Please keep in mind that some classes fill up fast and prerequisites may apply. Texas State cannot guarantee that you will be able to register for the courses that you wish to take. We strongly recommend the you consider alternate courses as needed.

    Some departments/programs do not permit exchange students to take their courses, while others will evaluate course availability before approving exchange students.

    Attention: Please remember to register for only face-to-face courses on the San Marcos campus. Our office will not cover additional fees associated with online or hybrid courses. 

  • All international students on F-1 and J-1 visas are required by university policy to have health insurance coverage while studying at Texas State University. The international student health insurance premium will be billed to an F-1 and J-1 international student's university account during the time of registration for classes.

    Please follow this site www.healthcenter.txstate.edu/international for insurance costs and benefits:

    Once you register for courses, you will be automatically enrolled in the Texas State Health Insurance plan and the bill will be sent to your student account.

  • Once you have purchased your airline tickets, please enter your flight information to your Online Incoming International/Exchange Application (Graduate).

    There are three separate Departing Airline forms and two returning forms for each flight you might be taking during your journey to San Marcos, Texas.

Important Information 


  • Please check the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) website https://www.international.txst.edu/prospective/tuition.html for the estimated cost of living. The exchange students need this information to apply for the I-20 document.

    Please scroll to the bottom of the page to the “Exchange Student through the Education Abroad Office” on the ISSS website. 

    Note: tuition and fees will be waived for the exchange students. 

     

     

  • Students will be billed through Texas State Student Business Services (SBS). The student bill will include

    • the international operations fee
    • lodging and meals (for students living on campus)

    To view/pay your bill, please go to our Student Business Services website (SBS).

    You can pay your bill in full or in three installments. More information about payment deadlines and payment plan, you can find at http://www.sbs.txstate.edu/students/dates.html

    *Please note that the student account will also show tuition and fees associated with registration at Texas State. These charges will be covered by Texas State Education Abroad according to the agreement between Texas State and the sending institution.

    Number of Covered Credit Hours 

    All incoming exchange graduate students are covered for 9 credit hours (full-time status).

    Attention: Please remember to register for only face-to-face courses on the San Marcos campus. Our office will not cover additional fees associated with online or hybrid courses. 

    Any additional charges, not specified in the agreements, will be covered directly by the exchange students.

  • Online Housing Contract Submission and Dining Plan Selection

    Upon request and depending on room availability, the Exchange Program Coordinator may assist with on-campus housing reservations. 

    All students residing on campus are required to purchase a meal plan. After being assigned a room you will need to sign up for a dining plan through Dining Services.

  • There are many off-campus options that are walking distance to campus and have a shuttle bus to and from campus.

  • Check-in Date(s)

    Official accommodation will be available for early check-in one week before the semester starts. Therefore, we do not recommend that you arrive in Texas earlier than one week before your first day of classes. The Exchange Program Coordinator will notify you in advance by email regarding the check-in date(s) for on-campus accommodations. Click here for more details about on-campus accommodations

    Students who are living off-campus, please verify the move-in dates with your apartment complex.

    Temporary Housing before Orientation

    If you decide to arrive earlier than the Texas State housing accommodations are open for check-in, the Exchange Program Coordinator may assist you with finding accommodations for your earlier arrival. However, you will be responsible for any and all costs associated with this temporary housing arrangement.

  • Immigration Checking-in with ISSS

    All exchange/international students are required to check in with ISSS to comply with immigration requirements and attend the Ready, Steady, Go Session. Please follow this link: https://www.international.txst.edu/prospective/f-1-student-check-in.html to check the date for this meeting. 

    Bobcat ID Card

    Once you arrive at the university, you will need a Bobcat card. This student identification card has many features. These features include:

    • Linking your Bobcat card to a Wells Fargo account, so you may use your card as an ATM card
    • Borrowing library material
    • Door access to campus facilities
