Incoming International Exchange Undergraduate
Nomination
Before you can start your Incoming International Exchange Application (Undergraduate), please meet with the exchange program coordinator at your home institution and request submission of the Nomination Form.
- Nomination deadline for Fall Semester (August - December): March 1st
- Nomination deadline for Spring Semester (January - May): September 15th
The Texas State Exchange Coordinator will review the candidates and confirm acceptance within a one week time period.
Pre-acceptance steps
Please note that pre-acceptance steps (two applications and supported documents) need to be completed by the following deadlines:
Fall Semester (August - December): March 31st
Spring Semester (January - May): October 1st

1. Incoming International Exchange Application via Education Abroad
After the Texas State Exchange Program Coordinator accepts the nominations, international exchange students need to complete the Online Incoming International Exchange Student Application.
Students will be required to upload the following documents to complete their application:
- A copy of their passport
- A current or most recent copy of their transcript (unofficial or official)
- Proof of language proficiency that can be demonstrated by one of the following:
- TOEFL iBT – 78 (with minimum scores of 19 on each subsection and 18 or higher on writing section)
- TOEFL PBT – 550
- Cambridge IELTS – 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 score in all sections)
- Letter of Evaluation from your institution certifying the university level English proficiency of the candidates

2. Undergraduate Student Application via ApplyTexas
Undergraduate students must also apply directly through the ApplyTexas application.
- Select Transient Application.
- Enter your name exactly as it states in your passport.
Notes: Incoming exchange students are exempted from paying the application fee. Select the waiver option at the end of the application.
- Log into ApplyTexas and select “Create a new application now”
- Select “Create a new 4-year university undergraduate admissions application”
- Under “Target University”, select "Texas State University (San Marcos).
- Application Type will be “Transient”
- Select your target semester of entry
- Under “Major”, select “Exploratory”
- From there, complete the rest of the application with your personal information.

Post-acceptance steps
Please note that there is no specific deadline for post-acceptance steps, however, it is highly recommended to complete these steps within two weeks after your application has been approved and your status changed to "committed".

0. Course Descriptions/Catalogue
After your applications have been approved by Education Abroad and the TXST Admission Office and you have been officially accepted to study at TXST, we strongly encourage you to start looking at the courses that you are planning to take at TXST. Please select courses that are taught face-to-face and on the San Marcos campus.
For course descriptions, view the Course Catalog here and then check 'CatsWeb' to view course offerings and schedules by term. Below are detailed instructions on how to view the courses by term:
- View courses by term
- After you select the fall or spring semester (current year), you can select the subject and course level you need. Once you do so, you will find a selection of classes for a particular subject offered.
- You can then select the class that interests you, by simply clicking on it. Once you do, a detail of the class will open, and you can see if the class has any available seats at this time.
- Please do not choose any classes that are online or at the Round Rock campus.
- See the syllabus for each course.
Attention: Our office will not cover additional fees associated with online or hybrid courses.

1. I-20 Request
After being accepted to Texas State University, you need to request an I-20 Form. YOU WILL NEED TO BRING YOUR SIGNED I-20 WITH YOU THROUGH CUSTOMS AND AT IMMIGRATION CHECK-IN.
You will need to request an I-20 via the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) website.

2. Texas State Net ID
After being accepted to Texas State University, you will receive an email with an assigned NetID. Your Texas State NetID is a number and letter combination and it is also a prefix of your Texas State e-mail address. See the examples below.
- NetID (username): zz1234
- E-mail address: zz1234@txstate.edu
- Create or reactivate your Net ID: with your NetID you will be able to check your Texas State E-mail (BobcatMail) and log into the Texas State Self-Service (CatsWeb) where you will have access to a variety of online services, such as checking holds on your account, viewing final grades, class registration, etc.

3. New Student Online Orientation
Exchange students must complete the online New Student Orientation (NSO) before arrival - and follow the Other Admissions Types category.
Please create your profile for online NSO via https://secure1.vzorientation.com/txstate/default.aspx
Once you create your profile and reach the "Dates" page, please send an email to nso@txstate.edu and indicate that you are an incoming exchange student. The staff member will place you in the online session.

Attention!
Exchange students DO NOT need to the contact Academic Advising Center nor attend the on-campus NSO. These orientations are required for undergraduate degree-seeking students. Exchange students do not need to pay $60 for online NSO (the fee will be waived from your account).

4. Health Information Questionnaire via EA Online Incoming International Exchange Student Application
The purpose of this form is to help Texas State to be of maximum assistance during your education abroad experience. Mild physical or psychological disorders can become exacerbated with the stresses of life while studying abroad. It is important that the Exchange Program Coordinator is aware of any medical or emotional problems you have experienced. The information provided will remain confidential and will be shared with program staff, faculty, or appropriate professionals only if necessary to your well-being. Texas State may not be able to accommodate all individual needs or circumstances. This information does not affect your admission into the program.

5. Immunizations (Bacteria Meningitis Vaccination)
Texas State requires Bacteria Meningitis Vaccination for all students under the age of 22.
Please click here for more detailed information regarding immunization. In order to meet this requirement, we strongly recommend to check your immunization records. If you have not received this vaccine, be sure to get this vaccine immediately after being accepted into Texas Sate - no later than one month prior to arrival - so you will not have difficulty registering for classes.
You need to submit your proof of vaccination to Magnus Health SMR. Acceptable evidence of vaccination may be found on the Undergraduate Admissions website.

6. Registration for Classes
Once you have completed the required online New Student Orientation (NSO) and submitted proof of meningitis vaccination, you can proceed with course registration.

Attention!
Please keep in mind that some classes fill up fast and prerequisites may apply. Texas State cannot guarantee that you will be able to register for the courses that you wish to take. We strongly recommend you consider alternate courses as needed.
According to the Institutional Agreements, undergraduate exchange students are covered for 12 credit hours (full-time status). Only students from the listed partner institutions may register for up to 15 credits:
- Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University Mosbach/Heilbronn
- Hogeschool Zeeland
- MAUI-Utrecht Network
- Université Rennes 2
- Universidad Adolfo Ibáño
Attention: Please remember to register for only face-to-face courses on the San Marcos campus. Our office will not cover additional fees associated with online or hybrid courses.

7. Health Insurance Plan
All international students on F-1 and J-1 visas are required by university policy to have health insurance coverage while studying at Texas State University. The international student health insurance premium will be billed to an F-1 and J-1 international student's university account during the time of registration for classes.

Once you have purchased your airline tickets, please enter your flight information to your Online Incoming International Exchange Student Application.
